Choose a good Dog for your family

If you are thinking about adding a canine companion to your household; I think that the most important thing to take into consideration is the temperament that is associated with the type of dog that you are choosing. Be careful about getting a dog just for protection. These types of dogs are better suited in outdoor settings that don't require the dog to be in close daily contact with humans.

You need to address the issues of how many people and what type of people live in your house. Dogs are great companion animals. They usually get along with visitors that come into your house and they require initial training that quickly tapers off.

So here you have my impression of the top 10 breeds of dogs that are well fitted for family living.
Golden Retrievers: Golden retrievers are a breed of dog that is know for their loyalty. This dog has a dual disposition being great with the family while also offering protection to children. When I think back to my childhood I can recall many of my friends who had Golden Retrievers.

Labrador Retrievers: The Labrador retriever is my second pick for family dogs. The Labrador retriever very calm and easily adapts to environments with other pets. Be careful with meal time. These dogs are sometimes known to be choosy with the type of food they eat. You may end up trying many brands of food until you find one that is right for your dog.

Pug: If you're a small dog kind of person here's my best pick for you. The solution could be to get a pug. These dogs are small in size but they are strong enough to be toted around by kids. Play, play, and more play is the motto of Pugs. These dogs can be overly energetic in the first year, but what puppy isn't?

Beagle: I love long dangling ears so Beagles and Basset hounds always turn my head. This breed is great for a very active family. This dog loves to go places with you. So if you have a few kids and have many outdoor activities, this dog will greatly enjoy your household. You certainly won't be bored with a dog like this.

Irish setter: The Irish setter is a dog that loves to please people. In the past this dog was used as a hunting dog. That has changed over time and it makes a great family dog. The Irish setter will work, learn, and train in a lot of ways just because it makes you happy. The beautiful red coat of these dogs is a huge visual attraction to a lot of people also.

Australian Shepherd: This is a great dog to have if you live on a farm or have some acreage. The Australian Shepherd likes to work and is very smart in helping out. When you initially put in the time and effort to train them they respond wonderfully to their owners. These dogs are very smart, loyal and curious, which leads to hours of fun for the dog and your family.

Border collie: The Border collie is very intelligent and aware of their surroundings. They are able to be trained to a high degree. This is one of the hardest working dogs thriving on praise. The Border collie is highly energetic with great stamina. Provided them gets sufficient activity to keep them occupied and ample exercise, the Border collie will get along quite happily with other dogs, and children.

Newfoundland: Think of the movie "Beethoven" and your talking about that size. The "Gentle Giant" also knows as Newfoundland is huge but incredibly calm. Because these dogs are large warm weather really wears them down because they are so hot. You really need to give them inside access to keep them cool. This dog will love to be a couch potato with you. Consider this dog if you're a calm and not to active family.

Poodle: With a long skinny nose similar to a collie, Poodles make wonderful pets. They are beautiful to show yet greatly fit into family schedules. Kids really enjoy the fact that they can be mischievous. Make sure you give this dog enough attention so he doesn't find his own (destructive) ways of entertaining himself.

Collie: If you grew up watching Lassie, you know what a wonder-dog Collies can be. They are an easy breed to train, just watch out for their herding impulses. Older people need to be careful since these dogs are underfoot a lot. These dogs get along splendidly with other animals and are a beautiful breed. You will need to spend time and money on grooming to make sure their coat stay is good condition. Many of my friends are stopping by pet adoption places. I agree 100% and this guide can help you when you are looking at what types of mix breeds you see there. Dogs are great companions and can add many meaningful loving years to your home.
